Dixie, a self described beauty junkie and founder of the cosmetic company Dixie Bits , watched her grandmother extract coconut oil in an iron pot on her stove top in her native Trinidad. That oil became their go-to moisturizer.
It was Dixie's beloved grandma who taught her that nature was the best cosmetics counter.
"My product line is inspired by the Garden of Eden," says Dixie. "Where I grew up in Trinidad, we had all these fruits in our yard. My grandmother would pick them and use them for skincare.
"When I was younger, I took a lot of the stuff my grandmother taught me for granted. We didn't have a lot of money and we used the stuff in the yard for our bodies," she says. "As I got older, I realized how very organic of a lifestyle we lived."
