Analysis: Group PMI - solutions for chronic conditions
Traditionally PMI covers just acute conditions, but what about other healthcare essentials such as routine monitoring and check-ups for long-term conditions? Emily Borkowska finds out more.
Group private medical insurance (PMI) has traditionally existed to cover the costs of treating employees’ acute – i.e. curable and short-term – medical conditions. But providers have introduced a range of services that have seen the product encompassing some treatments for chronic conditions as well.
Providers have clearly defined benefit rules within their insured contracts that state that chronic or critical illnesses which cannot be cured, such as multiple sclerosis, asthma and diabetes, are not covered. In practice, however, it is not this black and white. If an employee is treated for an acute condition and then needs further monitoring to maintain their health, some insurers will assist them. And if a member is receiving such treatment and the business is switched to an alternative provider, brokers will usually negotiate the continuation of the treatment.

So I've snagged someone in the business of creating and selling vector artwork to explain in laymen's terms the crazy in's and out's of copyright (with digital art). I'd like to introduce to the blog authorship, Ray Dombroski, founder of The Vector Lab (thevectorlab.com) and a COLOURlover himself.

Arthritis in Black and White
Anne Brower and Donald Flemming have written an excellent book about the radiology of Arthritis by plain films.
The book is structured by region (i.e. Hands, wrists, spine) and by diseases, such as Osteoarthritis, Lupus, and Gout. The text is concise, easy to follow and the summary points are well organized. The arthritides can be the most challenging diseases to diagnose on plain films.
Some images are difficult to appreciate the subtleties of what findings that the authors are trying to convey, at times. Overall, this is a valuable reference for a rheumatologist, musculoskeletal radiologist or general radiologist.
I would recommend an update to include digital radiography and utilization of MRI in arthritides.
VERDICT
I highly recommend this book.
